ORPHAN CARE

Chreso has been running a children’s home called Fountain Gate since 2009. The children’s home is located in Lusaka Province in Chongwe District. The home has a total of 200 orphans and vulnerable children aged between 4 and 18 years old. Most of these children are brought to the home by the social welfare office after being removed from circumstances where they faced either abuse (including sexual abuse) or neglect. At the home the children are provided with all their basic needs including, shelter, food, clothing as well as education up to secondary school (and tertiary in some instances). There is one care givers (called a mother) for every 12 children. These provide the emotional, psychological and physical care for the children to ensure that they grow up in a loving environment and are able to make social connections with other people. About 23 of the children are HIV positive and receive ART from the Lusaka Clinic. The home also ensures that all the children have access to medical care.
